It really depends on a person’s needs and situation. My mother-in-law just p***ed away, after six years in a nursing home. She was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease over twenty years ago. As the disease progressed she stayed in her home with my father-in-law, but eventually they required almost round-the-clock home health care ***istance, as he was unable to provide all her care. Eventually the home health care service said even they could no longer provide the level of care she needed, as they weren’t prepared to use certain equipment which became necessary for her care — in particular a lift device to get her upright for transport to the bathroom during the night, and out of bed in the morning. She didn’t have the arm or leg strength to get herself out of bed and lower herself to the toilet or to a shower seat, and it was dangerous for a caregiver to try to support her un***isted. Her medication schedule was incredibly complex, and that became unmanageable for my father-in-law, too.
